Okay so for you long-time readers of this blog, you probably remember the Disney Diet and how I was rockin' the treadmill everyday in preparation for my trip to Disney. Back then, I remember having that treadmill sit in the corner of my room, mocking me because I could walk no longer than 13 minutes. I when I say I could walk no more, I mean I was gasping for air and praying for death.
Welcome to today.
I was all kinds of confident about getting back on the treadmill. It's been 8 months but if we're being honest, I have been doing the Walk Away the Pounds system and can do a three-mile walk in less than an hour, WHILE TALKING, and not feel all that bad. Sweaty, yes. Bad? No.
So I climbed on to the treadmill this afternoon, put on my headphones and one of my 80's disco-laden CD's and was set to do my sassy walking thing. After three starts and one trip OFF of the treadmill, I finally got my groove on. I'm not proud of it, people, but if I'm going to keep a diary of it, then I might as well be honest about it. I lasted 20 minutes and barely made the mile. I feel like a complete loser. And not a "biggest loser" where you lose all the weight and win the prize, but a real LOSER where I should be pointed and laughed at!
It can only get better from here, right?

Hang on! it gets better. And don't be so hard on yourself. It takes a few days to "build back up to where you were".
That treadmill speed is alittle "faster" than the ones at the Y and since you were so honest. I too have "lost my footing" and been thrown off it too, it happens :).
A few suggestions:
DRINK WATER!! I drink a 16oz bottle of water 30 minutes before I exercise, a bottle during and a bottle after I work out.
I don't go by the speed or distance I cover the display with a towel and I start the treadmill and warm up, and then I increase the speed until I am "working out" but not huffing and puffing and then back it off a hit, listen to 3songs or until I am "in the groove" and then increase the speed, try to make another 3 songs and before you know it you have gone miles.
I use a fan to keep me cool while I am exercising, it also keeps you from feeling "sweaty".
picking your favorite music that you only listen to when working out, or motivation songs you like helps. I mixed and burnt my own cd's, and now I have the Ipod I change my playlist often and have a workout playlist.
Let me tell you what, I know what you mean about gasping for air and praying for death. Those treadmills are wicked at first!! I can walk 1-2 miles briskly, talk on my cell phone AND have the dog on a leash, and I barely break a sweat. Put me on a treadmill, and after 5 minutes or so, I'm like an old lady. My legs are burning, and I'm wondering why I am even on the dumb thing! :)
Don't beat yourself up over not doing what you thought you could do right off. You're making positive steps... stick with it and you'll be fine.
