Countdown to the big change...

So we finally went to see this place that Nick is going to be sharing/renting with his friends.  It's an old house.  It needs a lot of work.

It is perfect for three 19 year old boys.

Our 19 year old, however, is making sure that we are so happy that he is leaving that April 1st can't get here fast enough.  He has been belligerent and nasty and just a general pain to everyone here.  I have been trying to find him furniture and things that he'll need to get settled in and he has picked apart everything that I've done and argued everything I've said.

Everyone keeps asking "Aren't you going to miss him?"  Honestly?  He's moving four minutes up the road - two miles - not cross county, not even to another state.  He will be right up the road and by the time he is fully moved out of the house, I am going to be so busy doing a freakin jig, that I won't have time to miss him!

I'm planning a room make-over for Michael since the boys have always shared a room.  Now that he is 11 I think it's time to make it more of a big-boy's room and get rid of some of the more "kiddie" stuff - like the toy box.  I'm kind of really looking forward to that.

Come on April 1st...

I so know what you mean about not being sure if you will miss your son once he moves out. When our youngest was old enough to move out, we were pretty happy and oddly enough we haven't suffered from that 'empty nest syndrome' yet. haha

And if you think your son is being belligerent and nasty now.... girl....it seems the more you do for your kids, the less appreciation they seem to have for all you have done and sooner or later you become the reason for all the misgivings in their life. So get prepared for being blamed for things you had nothing to do with nor heard anything about. hahaha. Just take my advice ....Remember to breathe ....Inhale....Exhale, etc. hahahaha.

But in the meantime....Dance!! But don't hurt yourself while doing the jig on April 1st and I hope it's not an April Fools Day joke. hahahahahaha.

*Make It An Amazing Day .... Every Day!*

Sounds like the way my daughter is sometimes, she's the same age. I don't think I'm getting rid of her anytime soon though, with her developmental disabilities we're in the process of having her evaluated to see if she needs a legal guardian. Much as I'd love to see her out on her own I really don't think it's a possibility for her.

Great post - you are always so honest, which is what makes your blog posts so fun to read! Hey, this kid is just ready to spread his wings and grow up and then he will become the wonderful GOOD person you and your husband taught him to be - really, it DOES happen! My kiddies are now 31 and 32, but we remember the struggles back in the day ~ but there truly is "the other side"! :)) Happy Sunday!

I agree with Coach Maria, the more we parents do for our kids, the less they appreciate us and what we do! Maybe you need to take the opposite approach, let him fend for himself in getting what he needs for his new place. Then you won't have to listen to him whine about what you are doing!
Good luck and April 1 is just around the corner!

Wait until he sees how nice it was at home! :) They don't realize it until they are gone and living with others who are worse pigs than themselves!! hee! hee!

Enjoy the space!

I hear you. If I could move my thirteen year old out on April 1st I would. Grrrr.

Here's hoping he appreciates everything a little more when he's out on his own!

I bet he is going to be the one missing home (and mom!)--at least in the beginning! No matter what, it is a big moment for you both!

Congrats mom, on a job well done!
