Sorry, but this one's a "ladies only" post...

Okay, so when I am PMSing, one of two things is going to happen. One: I will cry at the drop of a hat; I will be extremely depressed to the point of suicidal and begin planning my own demise. Or, two: I will have such rage that anything within reach will get thrown at something or someone. I almost threw my computer monitor out the window the other day.

Guess which mode I am in?

So being a good wife, I gave my husband the "heads up" warning about how I was feeling. I'm like "Look, I have unreasonable rage right now due to PMS. I'm not TRYING to argue with you, but really, I cannot help it." His response? "Well, that's no excuse! You can't use PMS as an excuse."

He's lucky that he's larger than I am otherwise he would have been launched out the window.

I mean, REALLY???? I can't use PMS as an excuse for having some rage issues for a few days but he can use "I'm not a morning person" as an excuse to be mean and nasty every morning for the last twenty years? I don't think so. Gentlemen, if any of you decided to stay on and read out of curiosity, let me give you a bit of advice: PMS is a REAL condition with REAL issues. If your wife tells you that she is dealing with unreasonable rage, do not TRY and provoke the rage. This would be a good time to just smile and go about your business or you might just find yourself getting beaned in the head with a blunt object.

I'm just saying...

My wife has been having some serious health problems that only compound her PMS. As we try to work together to address the health problems and how we can have the best possible life together in spite of these problems, we've been speaking with a family therapist.

PMS ends up being a big issue many couples face, and there isn't any magic solution. We talked about different options.

One is to use one of the anti-depressant drugs, I think it was prozac, but to only use it during PMS. Normally anti-depressants need to be used consistently for depression, but there has been some good luck using them for PMS just during that time of the month.

We're not ready to go down that path right now, especially given the other medical issues. However, the therapist mentioned that some of her patients have been having great luck taking a combination of Vitamin E, Evening Primrose Oil and Magnesium. It seems like a weird combination, and my wife just started taking it, so we can't vouch for it.

It might even end up being just a placebo effect. However, if the effect is caused by some chemical reaction, or the placebo effect, what matters is reducing the symptoms of PMS as well as giving hope to your husband that it won't always be this bad.

Take it for what it is worth, and keep you chin up.

I think every husband should have to go to a "woman lab" for 3 days. They could be shot up with our hormones and experience PMS, pregnancy and menopause in just 3 very long days. Maybe then they would get it.

And they would get no chocolate or Chinese food!

I agree with Carol! I get the same way you do - either crying or really angry. And as I get older it seems to get worse. I'm 38 and the angry part is the part that gets worse. It scares me sometimes how mad I can get at something that on any other day, I would never.
Hope you're feeling better soon!!!!!

i am so glad that i haven't had to deal with pms for many years, although the menopause is not any better, except i don't have the pain. men just don't get it and probably never will. have a great day my friend...hugz!

Why can't husbands just GET IT without having to be told? I'm a raving lunatic right now and totally sympathize with you. Hugs!

I am extremely irregular, so my husband never knows when it is coming, but thankfully, he has learned to keep his distance, and mouth shut, when it happens.

Oh, and I also LOVE Carol's idea! Too funny!

I think PMS has just become a joke to many who don't experience it. So many jokes have been made about it that it has become nothing but joke material... that is... to those who don't really know what it's like.

However you would think that after all of the years you two have been together he would know to keep quiet and lay low until this passes... soooo... should he find himself laying on the floor with an iron skillet by his head... it's his own fault right????

I love the woman lab idea. Some men just don't get it and don't understand. My hubby has learned to ignore my "emotional" moods.

My son is usually pretty good about it, unless I am in the sad mode and he just doesn't get it. I am telling you though, I swear that he gets male PMS about once every three months.
At least you told him, maybe he was still in morning mode and will apologize tomorrow? wishful thinking?

OK, so if he is saying you can't use PMS as an excuse, you have given him fair warning. Now he must face the wrath of Stacey.

Oh, I could go on and on on this subject. I have to go to my calendar every month and count the days for my "Ah...that's what's wrong with me reminder" It seems to come sooner and sooner now. I don't even like me during it. It stinks!
