Snow Update

Hey, guess what? It snowed in North Carolina. I kid you not. No, we did not get the 10-14 inches that were predicted, we got 5 here by me. Not much, right? Well, you would be wrong.

As the snow was moving in Friday night, the National Guard were on call. By the time I woke up on Saturday morning, the snow had basically turned to freezing rain. No one went anywhere all day. Sunday, all church services were canceled. Monday, schools were closed. Um...in case you were wondering, the snow and freezing rain had STOPPED on Saturday afternoon. There were no plows going through the neighborhoods, most of the main roads weren't cleared.

Today (Monday) the temps were in the high 40's to almost 50 degrees. The melting that was going on was amazing. When I went out this morning, it was like going through a waterfall to get to the doorway of where I was going. Now all of the roads are slushy and STILL the plows have not come through. It will be near freezing tonight. Schools are closed for Tuesday.

I understand how we are in the south and we hardly ever get snow and so they don't have the equipment that is needed. It's just at points like this that make me crazy. Someone clear the damn roads! Soon!

Please...

Wow! But, without plowed roads, what good would the National Guard be? They wouldn't be able to get anywhere!

Seriously, you people need some of the amazing snow plows that we have around here. :} Geesh...those things are BIG! They come by my house, before, during and after any snow or ice appear.

(Beforehand, they are putting down salt....that lovely stuff that rusts the underbody of a vehihcle..UGH).

Hope your roads clear up soon...there is nothing worse than trying to drive on that stuff! :)

Awww....to live in the South when it snows. It is a joy, huh? I remember that 2000 snow storm and a week at home very well. I'm sending warm vibes to melt your way:)

8 - 10" here in southern Virginia - beautiful! But still can't build my snowwoman - snow too powdery! Need my cross country skis instead!

i live in nj and it cracks me up when southern states get snow and they completely drop the ball when it comes to recovering.

and of course you got snow on the day that the greyhound we're trying to adopt was scheduled for transportation and it was canceled. an now we're supposed to get snow this weekend. so it will be canceled again. grr!

I live in Ohio and life does not stop for snow. We have to get a heck of a lot more than five inches and some freezing rain to stop us. Well you have fun with that snow.
