Chick Flick Friday! - "Barefoot in the Park"

This is a classic and I love it! Neil Simon's "Barefoot in the Park" is just silly fun from a time where comedy was clean. This movie stars a very young Jane Fonda as Corie and Robert Redford as Paul - newlyweds who are also newly acquainted! He is a straight-laced business man and she is...well, a hippee, so to speak.

The movie chronicles their first week of married life as they move in to their first apartment, have their first guests for dinner, meet their neighbors and have their first fight. It really captures what it is like to be a newlywed, only these two don't have the benefit of really having KNOWN each other first so everything that they learn about one another is truly brand new information.

This was the movie that the TV show "Dharma and Greg" was based on but the show did not do this movie justice. The long running joke throughout the movie is the fact that their apartment is a sixth story walk up and everyone that comes to visit them just about collapses in the front door, especially Corie's mother! Their apartment is really two tiny rooms with a hole in the ceiling and weird neighbors - all together it makes for a very lighthearted, romantic comedy.

So if you are in a 60's frame of mind, check out "Barefoot in the Park". It really is a great movie and if you like Neil Simon's work, you won't be disappointed.
