Happy Birthday, Sweet Girl!

You know, when you are the mother of a son there are many years where you are the only woman in his life. He picks dandelions for you to make you smile. To him, you are the most beautiful, the most wonderful. He would slay any dragon that dare to hurt his mom.

And then there comes a time in his life where he meets someone and mom is no longer the most beautiful or the most wonderful. He goes out and picks wildflowers in the wee hours of the morning and they are no longer for you. He is ready to slay dragons for somebody else. This is a big turning point in the mother/son relationship. Fifteen months ago, I experienced that turning point when Nick met Beckah.

Had this been any other girl, I think I would have totally lost my mind. But this girl, this wonderful, wonderful girl has come to mean so much to me - to all of us. She became the positive influence when Nick's friends were not. She gives support and encouragement to my son when he needs it most. Her smile is truly lovely. Beckah is grace and beauty and light in a world where Nick used to be dark, angry and bleak. She is the daughter I never had.

Happy Birthday, our sweet, sweet Beckah. Thank you for all of the love, laughter and joy that you have brought in to our lives. I pray that your day is wonderful and full of amazing surprises. We love you for all that you are.

How sweet Stacey! It's wonderful that you can start off the mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationship (IF that's where this is headed!) in such a loving and positive manner. That says a lot for both of you. Happy Birthday Beckah!
